SEVENTEEN officially dropped a brand-new sub-unit on Monday (Jan 12, 2026): DXS, made up of DK and Seungkwan. The duo released their mini album Serenade, featuring six tracks, with “Blue” as the title song.

In this ballad, DK and Seungkwan fully flex their powerful vocals. They shared that the song carries a wintery vibe that perfectly matches the tone and emotional depth of SEVENTEEN’s two main vocalists.

Let’s take a look at the lyrics of “Blue” and what the song really means.

The Meaning Behind “Blue”

“Blue” paints a picture of quiet loss, the kind that slowly eats away at you. The lyrics tell the story of two people who are technically still together, but emotionally worlds apart. At its core, the song is about love that’s fading, even though neither person is fully ready to let go.

The word “blue” works as a metaphor for deep, layered sadness. The narrator still loves the other person but has to face the painful truth that those feelings are no longer mutual. They try to hold on to the relationship, only to realize that the hope they’re clinging to is already gone.

“Blue” MV Stars Noh Sang Hyun and Lee Yoo Mi

DK and Seungkwan have long been known as SEVENTEEN’s vocal powerhouses, which is exactly why they chose to explore a different lane from the group’s other sub-units. Emotional ballads give them space to show off their vocal color, range, and chemistry. That’s also why “Blue” was selected as the title track.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, DK revealed that “Blue” was the very first song they picked for the album. He said, “This track really highlights our vocal synergy. The mood also fits the cozy atmosphere of winter, which made it the perfect song for this season”.

The music video takes things even further, playing out like a full-on K-drama with a heartbreaking storyline. Actors Noh Sang Hyun and Lee Yoo Mi star as a couple forced to confront the reality that their love isn’t what it used to be.

DK and Seungkwan’s mini album Serenade is officially out now. Have you listened to all the tracks yet — especially “Blue”?
